Ashburton Win At Hockey (N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL. Ashburton retained the lan Smith hockey trophy yesterday when the Southern Minor Associations’ tournament ended in Invercargill. Its closest rival, Southern Canterbury, was surprisingly beaten in tiie morning by Gore. After beating Ashburton on Sunday, South Canterbury had the best chance of carrying off the trophy, but Gore repeated last year’s effort in beating the Timaru team. Results:— Gore 5, South Canterbury 1.

Gore 4, North Otago 2. Ashburton 3, Southland 1.

Two teams were chosen after the tournament to take part in the national Rothmanssponsored tournament in Dunedin in September. They are:—
