An American-built Chaparral powered by a Chevrolet engine made racing history on Sunday by winning the Neuburgring 1000 kilometre race.

It became the first nonEuropean car to score a major post-war race victory in the old world.

Driven by the former American racing champion, Phil Hill, and Joakin Bonnier, a Swede who lives in Geneva, the shbvel-nosed racer humbled some of the greatest names in world racing. The Chaparral covered the 44 laps in an official 6hr 58 min 47.65ec.
