Week-End Road Toll Now Nine

(New Zealand Press Association) (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 6. The Queen’s Birthday week-end road toll rose to nine tonight with the deaths of two people in the North Island.

The number killed this holiday week-end is two more than last Queen’s Birthday week-end. The holiday road period ends at 8 a.m. tomorrow. Traffic has been reported as light all over the country and motorists appear to have been driving with more patience and consideration than formerly, a department spokesman said tonight Cars Collide Six persons were injured and one was killed when two cars collided at Topuni, eight miles north of Wellsford, at 9 o'clock tonight. Five of the injured are being taken to Dargaville Hospital and one to the North Shore Hospital. The dead person has not yet been identified. Five Injured Three adults and two children were injured shortly before 10 a.m. today when the car in which they were travelling hit a power pole in Curran street, Herne Bay. They were taken to Auckland Hospital suffering cuts, abrasions, concussion and chest injuries. Their condition has been described as satisfactory.

They are Mr and Mrs P. Robertson and their two sons, Stewart, aged five, and Neil, aged three, of Inkerman street, Onehunga, and Mr L. Parker, of Jessop street. Mount Roskill. Pedestrian Killed A pedestrian was killed when he was hit by a car at Clive, near Napier, tonight. The man, about 30, died after being struck by the vehicle on the main highway about a mile north of Clive. The police have not yet identified him. The driver of the car. a young woman, was slightly injured. Youth Killed A youth was killed and three persons seriously injured in a car accident on the Tauranga highway in the Waikino Gorge, north of Waihi, at 6.20 p.m. on Saturday. The youth killed was Allan Douglas Kellett, aged 18, of Tauranga road, Waihi. Wayne Robertson, Edward McGregor, both of Waihi. and Phillip Nuku, of Paeroa, are seriously ill in the Waihi Hospital. lan Ainsley, of Waihi. escaped stjjous injury.
