Arson Suspected In School Fires
(N.Z, Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 6. Fire- b u g s have struck for the second time in 10 days at the Papatoetoe High School, causing damage unofficially estimated at £BOOO.
Police believe petrol or other fuel may have been spread round the school woodwork room, causing it to be burned out early on Saturday morning. On Thursday the previous week, the tractor and implement shed went up in flames after oil had been strewn around the building. About
£5OO worth of damage was done.
Saturday's ' blaze was restricted to a storeroom adjoining the main woodwork classroom, but before firemen had a chance to connect hoses it spread rapidly to engulf the whole woodwork section. The charred remains of work benches, machinery and hand tools were scattered in the debris. The woodwork teacher (Mr R. Smythe) lost teaching aids and textbooks he has collected over 17 years.
