Life-saving Exercise
Lyttelton Harbour Board staff and Timaru Harbour Board staff on Tuesday held a joint exercise off Quail Island. Life-saving equipment, including rockets, the breeches buoy and other operations were demonstrated as required by the Marine Department Regulations. The exercise was carried out from the pilot cutter Wairangi under the command of a Lyttelton Harbour Board pilot (Captain J. A. Barbour). Among those who attended the exercise were the Timaru Harbourmaster (Captain A. Grieve), the Assistant Commissioner for the CanterburyWest Coast Division of the St. John Ambulance (Mr J. J. R. Begg), members of the Lyttelton sub-centre of the St. John Ambulance and members of the Lyttelton and Timaru Police.
