N.Z. Dumping in Aust. Harmless’

Dumping in Australia hinged on one important thing—one had to get caught, a Melbourne management consultant (Mr W. S. Lowe) told a Christchurch seminar on exporting to Australia.

“I don’t see any reason why a New Zealander should help Australians to catch him,” said Mr Lowe. ‘‘The Australian market is huge and the chances of doing serious damage to it, in spite of what Australians say, are fairly remote.” Mr Lowe said that there were ways of getting around such things. “You should get on the bandwaggon while you can.” he added.

Mr Lowe said Australians would think more than twice before taking any action

against a New Zealand firm for dumping. They would bend over backwards to try to prove one was not “dumping” against Australian industry. That was because the trade balance between the two countries was- so much in Australia’s favour.

“In any case I would not worry about it,” said Mr Lowe. The New Zealand trade commissioner in Canberra (Mr A. E. Monaghan) said there had been only one case of New Zealand dumping in Australia in the last two years.
