Manufacturers Urged To Use Air N.Z.
A saving of between £4 million and £5 million was available to New Zealand if the 14,000 New Zealanders who travelled on long-haul routes each year, did so by the country’s own airline, Air New Zealand, said the airline’s general manager (Mr F. K. Feeves). He gave this information in a letter to the president of the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation (Mr J. R. Maddren). Mr Maddren supports the principle of New Zealanders travelling by their own airline, and Mr Reeves' letter has been circulated to all manufacturers’ associations to seek their support for the appeal. The secretary of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association (Mr R. T. Alston) said the association backed Air New Zealand’s request.
The association would draw the attention of members to the request by the airline in a circular, Mr Alston said. Several overseas airlines ask nationals to use their own airline. Mr Reeves said in his letter that by flying Air New Zealand, manufacturers could help the country’s costs, and indirectly their own. “It is the aim of the company, and the desire of every member of its staff, to make Air New Zealand worthy of the country and the people it represents,” said Mr Reeves. “If we are to succeed, we
must have the support of our fellow-countrymen. “This support can best be expressed by making all possible overseas air travel with the New Zealand airline. Agents will respect a client’s wishes if he gives his preference clearly for ‘Air New Zealand’, where possible.”
