CONFIRMATION OF KY’S YEAR
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SAIGON, May 11. Premier Nguyen Cao Ky confirmed today that he intends to remain in power throughout the long process of electing a civilian government This may take another year, he said.
“We now have an organisation to take care of this,” he told reporters. It was up to those in the organisation to carry out the process of the civilian take-over, he said.
He reiterated that the process would consist of
elections for a constituent assembly, drafting of the constitution and then another election for a legislative assembly.
“I said before that I am staying until the civilian government is elected,” General Ky said.
“How long will it take?” he was asked. “1 said it before.”
“Will it take one year or more?”
“I think so,” General Ky replied. “Will it take until the middle of 1967?” “Yes.”
