Price Of Flowers
Sir, —Recent comments on prices charged by florists drew various letters for and against. I thank the writers who backed up my point of view. The opposition were caught flat-footed, charging excessively fcr nerines bought at 2s a dozen or less. Next day after the publication of my letter, prices rose at the markets and reduced prices showed up in the shops. This shows the “can’t do anything about it” people what can be done by protesting against injustice. New Zealanders nowadays do not protest enough. There are plenty of customers in Canterbury who have had. raw deals from florists, but do not like to make a fuss, especially those on the receiving end. As for high overhead costs, etc., most of the florists near the Square have been in business for a quarter of a century, and would not remain if they were not on a good thing.— Yours, etc., GROWER. May 11, 1966. [This correspondence is now closed—Ed, “The Press.”]
