Tourist Mission
AUCKLAND, May 11. A tourist mission will arrive in Auckland on May 22, bearing gifts including a 3cwt chunk from the Remarkables. The mission from Queenstown is aiming at Auckland as its richest tourist market closest to home. The Queenstown party will also bear a big piece of greenstone which will be presented to the Mayor of Auckland (Dr. R. G. McElroy) as a gift to the city. The Mayor of Queenstown (Mr G. Cochrane) will lead the mission, which is promoted by the Queenstown branch of the

New Zealand Travel and Holidays’ Association. There will be seven in the party. Others will be businessmen and Mrs Lauri Lucas, wife of former R.A.F. pilot “Popeye” Lucas, a sheep station owner.
Douglas Babcock, the painter, will be another member and he may set up his easel on the footpath. The Queenstown visitors are negotiating to “take over” a bus on different routes each morning of the week, paying passengers’ fares and handing out brochures on Queenstown.
