DISCHARGED AIR RIFLE
Boy, Aged 14, Admonished (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 14. When a passer-by was struck in the wrist by a slug from an air rifle fired by a 14-year-old boy, five stitches were needed to treat the injury, Mr J. F. Keane, S.M., was told. The boy was charged In the Lower Hutt Children's Court with having possession of an air rifle when under the age of 16. He admitted the offence. Sergeant Courtney said that at 3 p.m. on January 19 a person using the right of way alongside some houses was hit on the right hand. Later, at Hutt Hospital, it was found the slug had lodged in her wrist. During a difficult operation the pellet was extracted. The boy said the rifle was not his, but that his brother and a friend had left it in a shed and the temptation had become too great. He fired at a piece 'f metal and thought the slug could have ricochetted and struck the woman. He was admonished and discharged.
