ALLEGATIONS by some English journalists that G. A. Bartlett, the New Zealand fast bowler, threw the ball when he tried to bowl his faster ball were received by the reply that Bartlett has toured South Africa and played in a number of tests but his action has not been questioned by any umpire. The photographs show that while Bartlett sometimes has a bent arm (left) before his delivery at the time the ball leaves his hand (right) his arm is straight. It is pertinent that in each photograph Bartlett’s front foot is pointing in; for a throw the bowler usually has his foot pointing towards cover and has an open-chested action.
