Bigger Grants Wanted
The South Island Publicity Association may ask some local bodies to raise their grants to the association. Reporting on finance to a meeting of the association’s executive council Mr E. T. Beaven said some bodies gave only £5. He said the association was doing a tremendous amount for many of their areas and deserved better consideration. In the last year there had been an excess of £4B expenditure over income. Altogether £4720 had been spent on publications compared with £2225 the previous year. The budget for the coming year allowed for an income of £14,000 compared with an income of more than £12,000 last year. Publications would be allotted £5350. i Speaking of income, he said (that in ,1958 subscriptions had come to £l6OO, in 1959 to £3OOO, in 1964 to £8440. and i’ast year to £10.174. Grants had risen from £lll6 in 1958 ‘to £1589 last year.
