School Music Camp

About 120 Mairehau High School pupils would attend a music cainp at the Woodend youth centre during the weekend after Easter, the headmaster (Mr A. B. Ryan) reported to a meeting of the board of governors. Planned by the school’s music staff, the week-end camp would be concentrated on choral and orchestral training, Mr Ryan said. Leading Christchurch musicians and music teachers would speak and present items at a “teach-in” on the Saturday evening, and activities, including recreation periods, would culminate in a concert by the pupils. “This has been done very successfully by other schools,” he said.

“I welcome this idea.” said Mr A. A. Cook. “I think it’s a splendid move.”
