Display Of Work Put On For St. Andrew’s Jubilee
Every facet of everyday life in St. Andrew’s College was demonstrated at an open day on Thursday for the jubilee. Hundreds of old boys and parents moved through the classrooms and grounds. Class activity at all levels was shown in history, social studies, geography, chemistry, physics, biology’, and scripture. Agriculture pupils were dissecting the udder ofi a cow and the stomach of a sheep, art classes showed drawing, painting, pottery, and sculpture, and woodwork and metalwork shops were in full operation. Hobbies clubs of boarders operated the slot-car racing track they had built themselves, their own wireless transmitter, photographic processing equipment, and a variety of music was played. The college yacht was afloat in the swimming baths. Attracting most attention were realistic exercises of the school’s strong cadet batta 1 - lion. J Surprise “Attack" Army cadets in “jungle jeans” set up a bivouac, began camp cooking, suffered a surprise attack with plenty of blank ammunition and thund-
er flashes, and then made a strategic withdrawal.
The Air Training Corps simulated the rescue of an injured parachutist from a tree. He was brought down, given medical attention, and then ferried across the Strowan stream in a collapsible dinghy.
The Sea Cadet Corps performed a variety of naval operations on dry' land Meanwhile hundreds of old boys took part in cricket matches at Elmwood Park, bowls on city rinks, and golf at both Russley and Harewood.
