WINDSCREEN BREAKAGES
M.O.W. Replies To Complaints
It was obvious, from records kept, that no particular localities on the read produced broken windscreens on vehicles using the Christ-church-Akaroa highway, said a letter from the Ministry of Works, received by the Wairewa County Council at its monthly meeting yesterday. Both Wairewa and Akaroa County Councils have repeatedly complained of damage done to vehicles from loose stones on the highway seal. The ministry contended that damage on the highway was probably no worse than bn others.
The ministry said it had widened the sealing on corners, and now swept loose metal off the seal. Some modern windscreens, it was claimed, were easily broken, even by a flying chip of stone.
