Record Broken By .5sec In C.B.H.S. Sports
A remarkable 100 yards in 10.3 sec by the intermediate, G. Langham, high-liighted the Christchurch Boys’ High School athletic sports yesterday.
His time, recorded in the heats, broke by half a second the record held by the outsitandmg schoolboy runner of the 1940’5, A. F. Dockery.
Langham also equalled Dockery’s record for the 440 yards with a time of 53sec—again in the heats. Another record broken was in the junior 880 yards. P. Sander’s time of 2m:n 14.4 sec ; eclipsed one of the oldest . marks—set in 1947 —by 3.6 sec. In the preliminaries, G. May set a new junior record for the shot put. His new distance is 42ft «l-in. K. L. King’s under 14 100 yards record of 11.4 sec, which has s>tood the test of time s*ince 1940, was closely challenged, A. P. Forrer equalling the mark in the final.
