Northern Outlet
Sir, —We have heard much of the park roadway, but nothing about the northern outlet, which I believe is to stretch from the town side of Barbadoes street to Winters road. Surely the hundreds of householders whose properties lie in its path, which will ultimately be demolished, should by now be advised of the exact route and whether or not they can expect the whole or half of these properties to be taken, and to what extent they will be compensated. It must be recognised by the authorities that the situation is one which gives cause for great concern to these residents, especially re-sale, maintenance, and rehabilitation. Last, but not least, in so many cases, is the loss of all they hold dear.— Yours, etc., ST. ALBANS RESIDENT. March 1, 1966.
[The chairman of the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority (Mr E. J. Bradshaw) replies: “I have every sympathy with the correspondent and agree that the householders should be advised. The Regional Planning Authority staff, acting as agents for the National Roads Board and the councils of the region, are undertaking the planning of the northern motorway and it will be possible, at any time after the decision by the Christchurch City Council favouring the master transportation plan, to submit detailed proposals to the authorities concerned. As soon as the line is recommended by the authority it is expected that a meeting of all affected owners will be called and the matter fully explained.”]
