TROTTING Petite Sal Picked For Timaru Cup Tomorrow

Petite Sal, in the Timaru Cup, and Co Pilot in the Washdyke Handicap, form a likely combination for the T.A.B. double at the Timaru Trotting Club’s autumn meeting tomorrow. Both horses have raced with distinction in recent weeks and look capable of extending their records in their immediate starts.

Petite Sal paced a splendid race for second to Maudella in the Fitzgerald Stakes at Addington Raceway on Tuesday evening, recording 3min 23 3-ssec for the 13 furlongs. If she races anywhere near that effort, she should be much too good for most in the Timaru Cup.

Petite Sal will be bracketed with Majeur, a fair ninth in Tuesday night’s race. Majeur is a useful stayer and could be better suited by the standing start at Washdyke. Frosty Heather was chopped back at the start of his race at Addington Raceway on Tuesday. As the pace was very strong throughout it was not surprising that he failed to recover, although he was not disgraced in eighth place. Frosty Heather had been unbeaten in four previous starts and must be given another chance in this race.

Vanity Show, a winner on this course earlier in the year, will not be set an impossible task from 12 yards. She was just beaten for third over two miles at Addington Raceway on Tuesday, an effort which entitles her to serious consideration in tliis race.

Don Caesar, Humphrey, Maudella and St. Nazaire are others expected to show to advantage in a rather open

field, but they will find it difficult to catch Petite Sal if she shows the same dash as she did on Tuesday. Co Pilot, one of the most promising three-year-olds of the season, should improve on his fourth at Addington Race-

way when he contests the Washdyke Handicap. Co Pilot received a poor run on Tuesday and did well to finish so close up. The extra half-mile at Washdyke will suit him. On Probation was a fair fifth at Addington on Tuesday after receiving a poor run in the straight. He could do better in this race. Ingleburn. Hal Special and Snow Chief appeal most of the rest There will be an on-course double run on the Salisbury Handicap and the Timaru Nursery Stakes. Fair weather is forecast and the track will be fast.
