APPEALS FAIL
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 10. The Court of Appeal today unanimously dismissed appeals by Michael Davidson, Dan Donovan Ruahuihui, and Leighton Noel Crowe against their conviction and sentences in the Auckland Supreme Court for setting fire to the main exercise yard at Mount Eden prison. Mr Justice North, delivering judgment today, said the Court was of the opinion that the trial judge did have jurisdiction to amend the prisoners’ sentences the way he did, that the sentences were proper, and that there was no justification for making any reduction.
