MICRO-WAVE LINK

Restoration This Month

The micro-wave telephone link between Christchurch and Wellington may be restored before the end of March.

A report from Wellington says that on present indications it may be possible to put the Wellington-Christ-church section of the microwave system on traffic during weekdays after March 20.

The link will be broken at week-ends to 'enable contractors to test equipment. Post Office engineers have been assisting the contractors in an attempt to restore the link in the shortest time possible.

The micro-wave circuit was temporarily opened late last year to relieve Christmas business congestion. It was withdrawn last January with resultant toll delays to the North Island.
