Australian Quota
<IV.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright’ CANBERRA, Mar. 9. Australian butter producers are assured of continued access to the British market for at least 66,700 tons of butter under quota arrangements proposed by the British Government for the 12 months from April 1.
The Minister for Trade (Mr McEwen) said butter prices in the United Kingdom had declined to unsatisfactory levels.
However the quantity of butter which the British Government was proposing to license in the coming year would be significantly less than total imports in 1965-6 H and it was hoped there would be some recovery in prices The quota system would be reviewed later in the year to consider whether additional authorisation, limited to 5000 tons, would be authorised. If these additional imports were required they would be shared nroportionately between Australia and New Zealand producers.
