FOR SURE PUT DOWN
(N.Z. Press Association) HASTINGS. The six-year-old Balloch gelding, For Sure, which broke down badly during the running of the Napier Gold Cup at Hastings on Saturday, has been destroyed.
It was thought it might be possible to save For Sure, but one of the Napier Park Racing Club's veterinary surgeons, Mr G H McCormick, said yesterday that For Sure had got down and could not get up, and had been destroyed. For Sure was owned and trained by Mr E. Stapleton. of Wingatui, and had been campaigning in the central districts with Combination, winner of Saturday’s McWilliams Wines Handicap at the Napier Park races.
Alteration To Penalty (N.Z. Press Association) HASTINGS. The Hawke’s Bay district Committee met yesterday and varied the penalty imposed by the judical committee of the Napier Park Racing Club last Saturday on the apprentice G. R. Woolhouse, rider of Peter’s Pride in the John McVay Handicap. Woolhouse was suspended up to 5 p.m. on March 19 for interference. In reaching its decision, the judical committee did not take into consideration there were two midweek days during the period March 12 to 19 and as it was the judicial committee’s wish to suspend Woolhouse for three riding days, the penalty was accordingly altered to expire at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 14.
