ABORTION LAW

Lords Pass Bill fN.Z. P.A-Heuter —Copyright) LONDON, March 8. A bill to ease Britain’s strict abortion laws, sponsored by a Labour peer, was passed by the House of Lords last night. The bill, which faced fierce objections even in its closing stages, seeks to legalise abortion after pregnancy by rape or incest, and in cases in which the mother is mentally defective. But because of the forthcoming General Election it is unlikely ever to become law. There is not enough time for the bill to be presented to the House of Commons before Parliament ends this week. Recognition Given.—A total of 22 countries has so far recognised the new Ghana regime, according to the Foreign Ministry in Accra. — Accra. March 8.
