Reciprocal Taxation
Sir, —Early in February a team of taxation experts from England arrived in Wellington to assist in drawing up a new New Zealand-United Kingdom reciprocal tax agreement. 1 have scanned your newspaper every morning for news about this agreement, but so far, no luck. There are many retired English folk now resident in this country whose incomes come from Britain, and many New Zealanders with New Zealand incomes retired in the United
Kingdom. Many of these people whose incomes are not over-large are wondering whether there will be any increase in their taxation under the new agreement. It will hit them very hard if there is.—Yours, etc., INTERESTED. February 28, 1966. [The Minister of Finance (Mr Lake) says: “As is customary with negotiations of this type the details must remain confidential until the stage is reached where a simultaneous release can be made in both countries. The correspondent can be assured that all possible details will be released as soon as possible.”]
