VISIT TO CITY
Pollution Council (From Our Own Reporter> WELLINGTON, March 9. The Water Pollution Advisory Council will tour Canterbury and Southland later this month on what it" secretary (Mr P. E. Muers) today called “an educational mission.” The council will begin its tour on March 28 at Invercargill. It intends to visit the Mliance Freezing Works and to inspect abbatoir sites and sewage treatment plants. The site of a new meat works at Gore and the local sewerage system outfall will be inspected the next day The council will arrive in Christchurch that evening. On the next two days it will inspect the Waimakariri river, the proposed Belfast sewerage scheme, the Zealandia soap works, the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company’s plant, the Healthcote estuary and the Bromley treatment works. The council will hold discussions with local drainage officials. It plans to hold a meeting at Christchurch on April 1, after which members will return to their home towns.
