New Post Office Director

The Postmaster-General (Mr Scott) announced tonight that Mr G. Searle has been appointed Director-General of the Post Office.
I Mr Searle, who has been i the second deputy director- . general, succeeds Mr J. B. DarI nell. The Postmaster-General also announced the appointment of Mr L. W. Keys (director of personnel) as deputy directorgeneral in succession to Mr E. S. Doak. Both Messrs Darnell and Doak will retire this month.! Mr Scott also announced the appointment of Mr F. D. Searle had held administrative responsibilities in the General Post Office—first as a divisional director and latterly as second director-general. On several occasions Mr Searle has led New Zealand delegations to overseas conferences and meetings on international telecommunications.

Mr Keys reached administrative rank in the Post Office lin 1949 after holding welfare land personnel duties in the i General Post Office since 1947. In 1959 he was a director-in-charge of the postal services and represented New Zealand in this capacity at the Asian Oceanic Postal Union conference in Manila. Mr Scott said Mr Keys was then appointed director of i personnel. Mr Irvine —a member of the Decimal Currency Board with the responsibility of Post Office arrangements for the change to decimal currency—i recently visited Ausralia to ob-i serve its conversion to decimal currency.
