Retailers' New Officers
Mr A. S. Radford, of Wellington. has been elected president of the Retailers’ Federation for 1966-67. He is sales manager of the Wellington furnishing firm, Radford and Company, Ltd., and a former president of the Wellington Retailers’ Association. Mr W. G. W. Rix, managing director of Hay’s, Ltd., in Christchurch, has been elected vice-president. Mr Radford has taken a keen interest in the educational side of retailing, and has been a board member of the College of Retailing for some years. He studied at New York University in 1951, under a Fulbright scholarship, specialising in retailing, and has also
graduated B.Com. from Vie toria University. Mr Rix is a past president of the Canterbury and Westland Retailers’ Association. He is at present on his third trip overseas on behalf of Hay’s, Ltd., visiting Britain, Europe, the United States and Canada. Mr Rix is a foundation member of Hay’s, Ltd., having been with the company since its inception in 1929. He held the successive posts of assistant manager, manager, and general manager, before being apopinted managing director in 1963.
He began his business career on the West Coast, where he was born, with McGruer and Company, at Greymouth, and subsequently worked in Christchurch with J Ballantyne and Company, .Ltd.
