COMMERCLAL N.Z. Stocks Steadier, Australians Decline

New Zealand stocks were steadier in trading, but rises were still ahead of falls with leaders again providing the strength. Key issues led a sharp decline in the Australian list.

Advanced ranged widely through the New Zealand list with lost ground still being recovered. Upward moves were made by Dominion Breweries, National Insurance, New Zealand Insurance, Lane Walker, Consolidated Plastics, Fletcher, New Zealand Refining, Rothmans, Wilson and Horton, and Winstone old and contributing. Hay’s notes slipped 2s to 20s 3d.

Among Australian shares B.H.P. was marked down 6d more to 40s—a fall of 2s 6d in a week. G. J. Coles, down 7d to 10s lOd, and Woolworths, down 4d to 11s Bd, both reacted to news of a possible recession in Australian retailing.
