All Black Wing Retires
(N.Z\ Press Association) AUCKLAND. The 1961-62-63 All Black winger, D. W. McKay, yesterday announced his retirement from representative Rugby.
He will play one more season for his club, North Shore.
McKay, aged 28 and a dentist, made 101 first-class appearances, including 75 for Auckland. He scored 59 tries between his representative debut [against Counties in 1958 and i his last match for Auckland (against Wellington) last year. Thirty of these were for Auckland, 18 for the All Blacks and 11 in trial games. His best effort was scoring five tries against Northern New South Wales when New Zealand won by a record, 103-0, at Quirindi in 1962. The try McKay will be most remembered for is the one against France at Eden Park in the first test in 1961 and in the first minute. McKay said he had been lucky to play for Auckland during its "golden” Ranfurly Shield era.
