BOMB HOAX

I U.S. Aircraft Diverted A woman telephoned the Christchurch Central Police Station at 2.59 p.m. yesterday and said that a bomb had been placed on board a DCB aircraft which had just left Christchurch Airport for Nandi and the United States. The police telephoned air traffic control at the airport The aircraft, with 165 United States Navy men, 10 scientists, and a crew of 10. on board, was diverted to Auckland Airport. The passengers had all been working in the Antarctic and were returning home. It took three hours to search the aircraft. No bomb was found, and the DCB took off for Nandi about 7.20 p.m. The aircraft is under charter to the United States Government. The source of the hoax call has been traced, and Christchurch detectives were continuing inquiries last night.
