TV Tests
i Sir, —I thank the district manager of the N.Z. B.C. for his useful facts regarding the test pattern, contradicting the information 1 had obtained from CHTV-3 by telephone on two occasions. The fact remains that the information had to be dragged out painfully; while documentaries give highly technical information on a host of other subjects, television, radio, and the “Listener” treat the subject of television engineering as unsuitable for public consumption. The wealth of technical Information on motor-cars, found in many journals including “The Press,” does not imply that we are all mechanics. There is little room for “personal preference” in the mechanical efficiency of a motor-car, and. likewise, few would prefer their television receivers incorrectly adjusted. There is more than a suspicion that the radio trade, hard pressed to give service, is being pro- ■ tected, particularly at the top : levels.—Yours, etc., , VARIAN J. WILSON. ' March 7, 1966. I [This correspondence is now closed.—Ed., “The Press."]
