SUITABLE VENUE

Any doubts about the suitability of Rugby Park as a venue for the New Zealand track and field championships have been proved entirely misplaced. In spite of the heavy rain immediately before the meeting, the track was in surprisingly good condition and although it was rather dead it did not cut up. Canterbury officials did a wonderful job in preparing the park and administering the meeting. The capacity of the park was ideal. The 4000 spectators who attended on the final day gave the meeting the atmosphere it never would have had at Lancaster Park. Taking everything into account, it was a highly successful meeting and one which reflects considerable credit on the Canterbury Athletic Centre.
