THE WORST CRASH of the national track cycling championships last week was in a heat of the boys’ one mile. Fighting out a desperate finish were four riders—all of whom would have qualified—and in the struggle just short of the line, A. Batts (Auckland) and N. Gaines (Southland) came off their bikes. The photograph shows G. Lovell (West Coast-North Island, second), Batts (fourth), Gaines (third) and the winner. S. Hudson (Canterbury).
