Conditional Grant The Tai Tapu Public W* ll Committee would rcw j/ e , a conditional grant of £5OO for improvements to its hall- sa'u the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk) in Christchurch. Mr Kirk made representation. on behalf of the committee, to the Golden Kiwi lottery fund. Payment of the grant" would be made when the balance of the cost was raised locally. Mr Kirk said a condition of agreement was that the project should be completed in six months. The improvements include cloakrooms for men and women to be built on the front of the hall. The whole project will cost about £l6OO and the committee hopes to raise more money to add to what it already has, so it can qualify for the grant. The secretary of the committee (Mr J. H. T. Shore) said that he was very happy to hear about the grant. He was grateful to Mr Kirk for his efforts in getting the grant made.
Road Ban.—Because of a wrangle over toll charges, the Commonwealth Government have instructed drivers of all its vehicles not to use the new super highway at Mount White, north of Sydney.— I Sydney, March 7.
