THREAT TO MOVE
Stock Exchange Of New York (N ,Z .P .A .-Reuter —Copyright) NEW YORK, March 6. The New York Stock Exchange, unhappy at new taxes threatened by the Mayor Mr John Lindsay, has hinted it might move out of the city. Small towns around New York are taking part in an almost feverish wooing of the move out into the country. The small suburban towns have their eyes on the dividends to be gained from playing host to 100,000 white-collar workers. The boom began when the Stock Exchange president (Mr Funston) said the exchange might move from its 174-year-old headquarters if city taxes on stock transfers became unwieldy. Mr Lindsay has requested an increase in transfer taxes —a levy on stock transactions —in his proposed budget. The minimum tax would go up from 4 to 6 per cent.
