(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) GUATEMALA CITY, March 7. Guatemala was reported calm yesterday as about one million voters chose a new Government in the Central American nation’s first Presidential elections : in 15 years, United Press li International reported. The Army-supervised elections were to choose a President, Vice-President, Congress and local officials to replace a military regime that overthrew President Miguel Ydigoras Fuentes in 1963. The Army unofficially supported Colonel Juan de Dios Aguilar, a Right-wing candidate of the Democratic Integration Party. He is opposed by Colonel Miguel Angel Ponciano, of the National Liberation Movement, who is considered even further to the Right and Julio Cesar Mendex Montenegro, a member of the Centre-left revolutionary party. Mendez, a lawyer, is regarded a moderate, although his party is heavily infiltrated by Communists. There was speculation the Army would step in to annul the election if Mendez won.
