N.A.C. Looking At Small Planes

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 7. N.A.C. was considering using a third and smaller type aircraft on routes in small demand, its deputy general manager, Mr L. L. Ford, told the Air Sen-ices Licensing Authority.

After he had said in evidence today that the corporation had made no provision to continue the direct flights between Hamilton and New Plymouth he was asked by a member of the Authority if a smaller plane had been considered for the service. Mr Ford said the corporation this year would make a fairly exhaustive study of the possible use of a third type of aircraft which would tie in with the replacement of the DC3. This did not mean the aircraft would be the same size as the DC3. The corporation was looking-for a smaller type of aircraft which could have application to a number of these routes, he said. It could be the answer to Masterton, Alexandra and some smaller centres in the South Island.

No statement could be made until the corporation had investigated whether there was an aircraft that could be used in a reasonably economical way.
