Fishermen Praise Hospitality
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. March 7. The hospitality extended by New Zealanders to overseas game fishermen during the international big game fishing contest had been a feature of their stay, visitors said at a presentation evening in Auckland on Saturday night.
“Take it from me." said Mr J. E. R. Chilton, of Dallas. Texas, "the hospitality in New Zealand is second to none in the world.”
Although outnumbered by the New Zealand fishermen 10 to one. the visitors said they had enjoyed the tournament. In presenting the New Zealand Government Tourist and Publicity trophy to the leading visiting team of Mr R. J. Spalding, of Hawaii, the Minister of Tourism (Mr Eyre) said he hoped the competition would encourage more overseas fishermen to visit New Zealand.
“I am out to earn as much I overseas currency as possible j through tourism,” Mr Eyre said. "Tlie country can cer-1 tainly do with it.” The Air New Zealand Cup. awarded to the over-all winner in the billfish shark section, was presented by the general manager of Air New Zealand, Mr F. A. Trophy, awarded to the winning team in the yellowtail tuna section, was presented by Sir Keith Park to Kawau Island Deep Sea Fishing Club.
