‘Strong Protest '
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 7. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) today reported to the Cabinet on recent alleged intrusions by Japanese fishing boats in New Zealand waters. He declined tonight to say what he had told the meeting. Mr Holyoake said no reply had been received from Tokyo since a meeting last week between officials of the
Department of External Affairs and the Japanese Ambassador to New Zealand (Mr Shinyichi Kondo). Nqw Zealand had “protested most strongly” at the meeting, Mr Holyoake said. He would not elaborate. Asked what would be done if there were further intrusions, Mr Holyoake said: “The Navy has appropriate instructions.” He would not say what these were.
