Ashley Wins Shield Ashley won the Sub-Associa-tions’ Shield yesterday when it drew with Ellesmere, Ashley was 46 behind Ellesmere’s first innings score at stumps and had one wicket standing. A feature of the cricket was the very aggressive 92 by R. C. Merrin (Ashley). He hit four sixes and was dropped twice in his innings. Merrin also bowled very fast down-wind but was too short. R. Taylor made a sound 60 for Ellesmere, but D. Mcßae was the team’s leading player. He made 39 not out. then took three Ashley wickets.
