More Land Bought For College Site
(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, March 6. The Government has purchased from Mr L. B. Cox an additional 14 acres, for a price believed to be £60,000, as an extension to the proposed site for the Christchurch Teachers’ College in Waimairi road.
The Minister of Education (Mr Kinsella) has advised Mr M. A. Connelly, member of Parliament for Riccarton, that negotiations have been completed for the additional land required to enable both the primary and secondary teachers’ colleges to be developed together .in association with the university. “The purchase,” said the Minister, “will allow us to press forward with the development of both the primary and secondary departments, which together will
provide the full training facilities for up to 2500 students. “The site will also now be large enough to incorporate the students’ hostels on the same, campus where they will have the college facilities available to them. Such an arrangement could result in substantial savings in building costs.” The land now acquired adjoins the recently purchased site on the northern and western boundary and fronts Waimairi road.
