Early Dawn, an un- i predictable three-year-old brother to the’ for- j mer high-class sprinter Roman Maid, beat ! Scent handily and six ! others easily in the . Peninsula Handicap. It was Early Dawn’s fourth! win in the colours of his North Canterbury breeder, I Mr H. D. Greenwood, but he was at generous odds after weak showings in two races] against the open-class stayers] at Riccarton last month. On the oher hand it was Sabell’s last start fifth in distinguished sprint company at Riccarton which earned him favouritism for Saturday’s Kinloch Handicap. This small, but nuggety, Sabaean gelding has now won seven races for Mr L. Franklin, of Christchurch. Sound Tactics Skilful handling, as much as anything else, probably
