RANDOM REMINDER

THE HIDES OF MARCH

No doubt you woke up this morning with the uneasy feeling that you had an appointment with your dentist, or that your mother-in-law was coming to ay. It’s nice to be able to tell you that you need not worry about either of these dreary prospects. But there is something. Today is the day you deliver the products of a year's hard labour to the Commissioner of Inland Revenue. This is one of the few days of the year on which a man feels obliged to

give his wife a conciliatory pat on the shoulder, even if its merely a matter of deduction. Besides, it helps the little woman shoulder her proper burden more cheerfully. And that is the only proper attitude for the taxpayer too. Shouldn't you be pleased and proud to be a donor to the life blood of the nation? You’re not? Don’t say you haven't had a fair go. You’ve had twelve months to work out all the dodges, to think of all the various types of reductions and deductions to which you are possibly

entitled, and now it’s their turn. Be British. Be fair. When you’ve done your best, the other side has an innings. Never mind if you annually total about 18 and they run up something like £640 for two. They’re a big, strong team, and they’re professionals, while you only get the one knock a year. You’ve put up a decent sort of struggle, so it doesn't matter if you just can’t win. And take pleasure in the thought that ' those droves of bloodi suckers are, this very day, I! getting the squeeze too.
