FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A large anti-cyclone covering the Tasman Sea extends onto New Zealand and a shallow depression lies to the north-east of the North Island. Forecast: Canterbury.—Moderate variable winds, northeasterlies predominating on the coast; clear or partly cloudy, with moderate to mild day temperatures. Marlborough.—Moderate northerlies in exposed areas; clear or partly cloudy and mild. Nelson.—Moderate variable winds, mainly northerlies; clear or partly cloudy and mild. Buller and Westland.—Moderate variable winds; rather cloudy skies; a few scattered showers, mainly in the south; moderate temperatures.
