Talic Trying To Win Third In Succession

The prospect of an easy or even a heavy track at Motukarara today is unlikely to have any marked effect on betting in the Bradley Handicap.

Talic is almost certain to be a shortpriced favourite for this two - year - old event at the Banks Peninsula Racing Club’s summer meeting. Talic, which J. R. Shaw prepares at Riccarton, has already compiled a very sound record for his Christchurch owner, Mr W. H. Williamson. In the Bradley Handicap he will be trying for his fourth victory and his third in succession. Talic was unbeaten in two starts at the C.J.C. summer meeting last month. On a Ann, fast track today he would have probably been at prohibitive odds but the break in the weather is bound to have softened the ground and has given some reason for doubts. But Talic would still have to handle the ground very badly to get beaten on form. Llanston and Golden Promise, both from Washdyke, might be the hardest for Talic to beat. Llanston has yet to win his first race but fifth is the worst he has been in four starts to date. Golden Promise has raced only once—for a fourth. That was at Orari in October. If he has made reasonable progress meantime he could take beating today. Golden Vanity and Sabell are selected for the T.A.B. double which will be run on the Peninsula and Kinloch Handicaps. There will be a double for course patrons only on the Wairewa Stakes and the Ahuriri Hack Handicap. Brookfields Hope and Omasong is a likely combination. The forecast is for continued cool weather with the prospect of further showers.
