Although the appointment is to the Naval Research Laboratory it is intended that the appointee will spend most of his time on board the laboratory’s research ship. (For work at sea an allowance additional to salary is paid.) He will be expected to maintain the laboratory and scientific equipment on board and be responsible for carrying out the scientific measurement and collection of data in accordance with a laid down programme. During extensive trials additional scientific personnel are appointed to the ship, but he will be responsible for continuity in the basic programme. Qualifications de sired.
