In particular, the appointee will be responsible to the Director for the budgeting, planning and execution of a £30,000 research project to obtain sound design principles and data for the static and dynamic performance of masonry. The purchase of the best overseas equipment is envisaged, and open publication of the results is mandatory under the arrangements for the project. There is scope for advancement and considerable responsibility with commensurate remuneration, in this section of the Association’s activities. This can include supervision of other research projects, extension work throughout New Zealand, and liaison with engineers, architects and tradesmen. Applicants should have a keen interest in the properties of materials, and a degree in physical science, mathematics, or engineering; research experience would be an advantage. The permanent appointment could as well suit a younger graduate wishing to specialise in materials research as a more experienced one. Alternatively, a short-term contract can be negotiated.
