COMMERCIAL Better Tone To N.Z. Stocks As Week Ends
New Zealand issues showed a slightly better trend as trading came to an end for the week yesterday, but most of the improvement was the recovery of lost ground. Falls again outnumbered rises in the overseas list.
New Zealand Refrigerating recovered 3d to 13s 6d and Lane Walker 3d to 15s 3d. Consolidated Plastics old shares moved up 9d to 44s 9d and the new shares 6d to 445. New Zealand Newspapers advanced Is 3d to 67s 6d. Most downward moves in the New Zealand list were in second rank stocks. Lane’s lost 3d to 10s, Prestige 3d to 10s 9d and the unlisted Brierley 6d to 3s 6d.
Australian stocks reflected the easier market in Sydney and Melbourne. Broken Hill Proprietary slid a further 9d to 40s 9d and Burns Philp lost Is 6d to 335. Waltons and Woolworths each lost 3d.
