TROTTING Killadar And Holy Hal To Meet Again

The second meeting of the season between the outstanding colts, Holy Hal and Killadar, in the New Zealand Kindergarten Stakes will be the highlight of the Wyndham Trotting Club’s meeting at Invercargill tomorrow.

Only lack of experience by Killadar enabled Holy Hal to beat him in a record-breaking mile at Forbury Park on February 5. In that race Killadar began brilliantly from wide out and, after leading early trailed to the home turn. He took a short lead soon afterwards and was worn down and beaten by half a head. Killadar should have benefited from that run and recorded a brilliant trial at a matinee meeting earlier in the week. Whether he will master the extra two furlongs and a half as solidly as Holy Hal remains to be seen, but he should be one of the hardest to beat. He will be bracketed with Tactena, a half-sister by Garrison Hanover to Tactile, Deft, Adroit and other winners. She, too, has shown ability at trials, but might not be as far forward as her stablemate. Holy Hal is entitled to top ranking among the two-year-olds seen in action in the

South Island so far this season. He gained a very easy win at Rangiora in December and showed rare gameness to shade Killadar at Forbury Park. Holy Hal is usually a shade slow at the start, but his superior stamina has stood to him so far. It could be a deciding factor tomorrow. Holy Hal probably will have his next race in Canterbury next month in the £lOOO New Zealand Welcome Stakes. In the meantime Killadar is booked to contest the Timaru Nursery Stakes tomorrow week. Paula Jane and Conclusion, which contested the New Zealand Golden Slipper Stakes at Waimate in December, are the only others in tomorrow’s race with experience at totalisator meetings. Paula Jane tired to a rather distant sixth at Waimate, and Conclusion broke at the start and was twelfth. Both will have to improve to be a threat. Several others in tomorrow’s race have the breeding to suggest that they could be good winners later. Emulate is a filly by Light Brigade from a well-performed mare in Va Vite, and Golden Heights is a colt by Light

Brigade from Adio Esprit, an unraced daughter of Captain Adios. Fort Nelson is a halfbrother by Garrison Hanover to Bonny Starlet, Master Kent is a half-brother by the same sire to Garry Kent, Senator Frost is a colt by Thurber Frost from Wainoni Loyal, and Alpha Girl is a filly by Garrison Hanover from Girl Brigade. The T.A.B. double will be on the Johnny Globe and Transport Handicaps. Fields, with form, for the double are:—
